Would AI take away our jobs?

W

Artificial Intelligence is one of the most revolutionary inventions in the history of mankind. It helps us in automating various tedious tasks and solving problems that may be beyond the scope of normal humans. AI is advancing by the day, but it requires a lot of data to improve, the more data we input the better it gets. Many of us are amazed by AI capability but at the same time also concerned which begs the question, “What if AI gets so good at what it’s doing that it starts automating jobs and leaves us jobless?”

In Reality, this is not the case. Labour-intensive jobs may be automated, but complex jobs like programming and game development that require innovation and analytical skills are not possible for AI yet, it’s going to take centuries to come. AI automating lots of labour-intensive tedious tasks is good news as it will encourage us, to automate repetitive tasks and focus on what is more important. According to the World Economic Forum’s “The Future of Jobs Report 2020”, AI is expected to replace 85 million jobs worldwide by 2025. Though that sounds scary, the report goes on to say that it will also create 97 million new jobs in that same timeframe. But there’s also a flip side, as social media platforms use AI to recommend laser-accurate content to their users causing mindlessness that could lead to unproductive patterns.

In conclusion, AI will replace some jobs, but it will also create new jobs! It will help the human civilization progress by automating tedious tasks and shifting the focus to what’s important.
